PartnerCon – A Different Side

I’m lucky. I got to see a side of PartnerCon that many of you didn’t see. A side that makes me believe that what happened the first week in November was not just a photography convention, but the start of a movement.  As I drove home Thursday night, six and half hours up Highway 61 to the Mississippi Delta, I brought a little bit of the week home with me — both literally and figuratively. Photo by Spencer Clark. Five photographers from all over the country converged on three Delta towns to photograph three different weddings, and to bask in the glow of the previous week.  We chatted about what we’d experienced.  We laughed.  We spoke of our inspirations.  We shared our fears. We learned

Getting off the Dock in 365

If you haven’t seen Day 1 of my 365 project, then the title of this post probably doesn’t make much sense, allow me to explain. The ‘Dock’ is a metaphor for the ‘sidelines’ of whatever career you are wanting to jump head first into, for me that career is photography. Zack Aries, a talented photographer and One Light instructor from Atlanta Georgia, wrote several blog posts about a photographer, who went by the alias of B, in July of this year that was stuck on the ‘Dock’. ‘B’ was a part-time shooter with a full time day job and family to balance around his love for photography, but was ready to throw in the towel since his skill level stayed stagnant for the past year.

Partner Con NOLA Round Up

We are more than thrilled with this year’s turnout and want to once again say thank you for joining us for the BEST event we’ve ever had! I think all of us walked away with something powerful and we challenge you to spread the word AND spread your work.  Share what you learned and who you met with photographer friends and fellow PUG members.  Post your photos among the almost 700 on our Facebook page and/or share your blog posts on the forums. These are just a few by the following photographers in their own post Partner Con blog posts and also on

Partner Con Speaker Spotlight

I guess you could say that I accidentally became a wedding photographer.  In 1977 a couple of my friends were getting married and since I was a decent amateur photographer I volunteered to shoot heir weddings.  Word spread and before long I was doing about 5-6 per year fro friends and relatives.  Fast forward to 1993, I came to a crossroads in my career.  I was getting rather tired of working the weddings instead of attending them and told my wife I was going to quit doing them.  She told me to purse it more seriously instead of just passively.  I mulled that thought over for a while and thought, “why not?”.  I started investing in seminars, equipment and advertising and within a few years

PartnerCon 2009 Speaker Spotlight

What will you be doing Tuesday, Nov. 3rd at 3:10pm? Pictage Partner Conference is only a few short weeks away!  I’m so excited to see New Orleans for the first time, reconnect with friends from around the nation, make new friends and learn how to take my business and photography to the next level. How is everyone doing with deciding which sessions to attend?  With so many amazing speakers to choose from it can be a tough call.  I wanted to share with you a little about my session entitled “Top 3 Keys to Long-Term Success” that will take place on Tuesday at 3:10. You should come. It’s going to be a jam-packed hour of learning goodness.  Don’t plan on a lot of fluff –

Hurricane Katrina– Family Portrait Sessions

An opportunity for YOU to help serve the needs of Katrina survivors by creating lasting photographic memories – Just four years ago thousands of families from New Orleans and the Gulf Coast states were left homeless, with many of their personal belongings destroyed by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. A large majority of these families lost what could arguably be their most valued treasures – family photographs. In response to the disaster wrought by Hurricane Katrina we’ll be providing hundreds of families with charitable mini portrait sessions as part of PartnerCon New Orleans! With YOUR help, all families will be provided a CD of their images the day of the shoot, along with a package of assorted prints delivered to them a few weeks later.

Open Yourself to Inspiration

Last week we took delivery of a very special book called “Inspire.” It’s a celebration of you, the Pictage community of photographers, and the incredible work you do to capture memories and convey emotions through extraordinary images. The book has been a passion project for the Pictage team for the last few months. Included in its pages are images from a number of talented Pictage photographers. Some names you will recognize, others may be new to you. Each image was selected for the unique expression of each moment and the composition of the story to be told. The book is the first volume of a new way of communicating at Pictage, so get those images ready for submission for number two! It’s called “Inspire” because

Shoot, laugh, cry, stretch, learn, try, play, cuss, whine, yell, fly …

I spent this afternoon wandering cobblestones laid in the 1700’s.  I had an incredible dinner at a restaurant that was someone’s house in the 1800’s.  I walked the streets and heard the sounds of live jazz and revelry before falling into a chair in a bar with friends to talk about whatever comes to mind and watch the night deepen.  Where am I?  Where you should be too during the first week in November, in New Orleans. We’re here to scout the locations and venues for PartnerCon.  We became familiar with the primary venue site, walked the locations for the shooting workshops, and did some on-the-ground planning for the ‘Katrina Families’ charity shoot. New Orleans is a backdrop.  I can’t wait to see you all here.  You
