For a child photographer, it’s all about finding your way, finding your unique passion and running with it!
You can’t be everything to everyone. I chose to stand out in a number of ways, starting with offering a higher-end experience and a full-service studio in a beautifully historic, affluent part of town. At the studio, we pride ourselves on awesome customer service, catering to each client and their needs. From the first phone call, we are set up to ask prospective clients what they want from their session, and to identify their real needs. It’s high-touch throughout the entire process, from the initial inquiry to the moment when we deliver and install their finished pieces.
We also offer the best product line, and we do a lot of extras. I am always looking for fun little ways to make my clients smile! We host creative activities at our studio for kids and also fun ‘night outs’ for parents. We even have a birthday club that our kiddos love!
Unlike many other photographers, we do not offer digital files as a main choice on our menu of services and products. Although they are offered on our menu at a high price point, we are very open with our clients, explaining that’d we prefer they invest in beautiful pieces for their home, pieces they will share with many generations – you just can’t do that with a disk.
But standing out in a crowd requires more than a unique service offering or experience. Proactively investing in your branding is critically important, so hire a designer who can create your brand and use it carefully. It will help you build confidence in the services, products and collaterals you distribute. Remember, a consistently strong brand makes a consistently strong impression on clients.
Still, I want clients to choose me because they love my work, they’ve heard about their friends’ positive experience with me, and because they want to let me into lives. These clients always become friends and they appreciate the artistry of photography. And ultimately, they appreciate the value.
At the end of the day, it’s all about passion and relationships. I believe photography is truly a passion for most photographers. Children and the families that love them are the reason I am passionate about creating wonderful, memorable experiences for my clients. I want to stand out by offering the best, but this means helping my clients see that I sincerely love what I do, that I love their kids, and that I’m passionate about capturing memories for them.
Passion strengthens relationships. And for us, being a lower-volume studio makes each relationship even more intimate. We find this extremely important to establishing clientele, building lasting friendships – and ultimately creating a safe place for clients. These are the clients who will return many times, and usually bring along a few friends!
