Using the Adjustment Brush in Lightroom 3 (Part 2)

I have already done a video about the adjustment brush, but I just finished working on an engagement session, where I used the adjustment brush to do something you would think you need to go into Photoshop to do. So I thought I would pass it along to you. It always amazes me how far we’ve come. I feel like my grandfather who talked about growing up without cars and how he remembered the very first crank ford in town. Well, I remember when instant review was a Polaroid (and not an iPhone Polaroid app). I remember retouching images with a brush and some spot tone and a q-tip with bleach. I remember when Adobe programs didn’t even recognize RAW files. And now, I am

FAQ: Natural Skin Tones

Confession: I’ve been avoiding this question… We’re totally digging on our Uservoice page and stoked on all the thoughtful questions people have been asking and voting on, and this is one that has slowly risen to the top, and now I simply can’t ignore it. The truth is that the answer to this question is super simple for me to state with a quick do this, this, and this, but I don’t think that’s necessarily the most helpful way of explaining this. So, I’m going to do my best to give you some solid tips & tricks to get the skin tones in your images to look more natural and authentic. All things being equal, your clients will 1) be the most happy with their

Using Target Collections in Adobe Lightroom 3

Collecting images for various uses is made even easier with the addition of the Target Collection feature in Lightroom 3. This is just a quick tip on how to use this new feature. I use it to collect images for clients and vendors alike as well as for workshops and examples, etc. It is a fantastic feature, small as it may be, it really is a great addition to the Lightroom. Using a Secondary Display in Lightroom

There are lot of different ways to review images in Lightroom, but the best way is only available to those who have a secondary display. Having two monitors cuts your Lightroom selection time to about 1/4 the time you would ordinarily spend, and that’s after cutting your workflow time in half with my other recommendations. If you don’t have a second monitor, it is worth the price to go out and get one. Using a Secondary Display in Lightroom from Jared Platt on Vimeo. Using XMP Sidecar Files to Sync Lightroom with Bridge and Photoshop Camera RAW

Lightroom is my preferred platform for viewing, selecting, editing and delivering images, but occasionally, I need to open images directly into Photoshop, or view a folder of images in Bridge. In either case, the XMP data is the key to making a seamless workflow for that kind of circumstance. This Lightroom lesson explains how to use XMP data to allow a synchronous interaction between Lightroom, Bridge and Photoshop Camera RAW. A Photographer’s Workflow for the iPad

We have been hearing a lot about how using the iPad has helped photographers in client meetings and at events, by elevating the overall effect of displaying your images. But, we had not yet heard about an actual photographer workflow for the iPad until a link to this Mac World post “A Photographer’s Workflow for the iPad” was shared on the Pictage Forums. What we love about this article is that it explains the more practical possibilities that the iPad has for the photographer’s workflow, such as how to work with RAW files, manage images, and back them up. For some, this could quite possibly be the opposite of practical, and for others this could show promise for improving their workflow. How might this work

Lightroom Catalog Portability and Syncing Tutorial

Top Ten Ways to Increase Boudoir Sales

1. Make it Meaningful Keep in mind that you aren’t just taking pictures — you are creating how your client wants to be remembered… and the more you nail that, the more she’ll love it, the more she’ll value it, and the more she’ll want to pay for it.  Customize each shoot so that it is unique and full of personal details and emotional elements that will be meaningful to her. You can start during the first phone call by asking questions like “What do you love about yourself, your body?  What do you think is sexy? What are some of your favorite things that make you happy? What does your husband love about you?” etc. and use all of those personal details to create
